Mice Advice: Birthday Dinner Dilemma...

If you're anything like us, you always like to have a plan on a night out. There's nothing worse than aimless wandering in the freezing cold trying to find somewhere to feed/ water you but when you're in charge you do have the issue of everyone's night out hinges on you...! Usually it isn't too hard as there are a million and one places on our list waiting to be tried out, however the one occasion that always poses a bit more thought and stress is a Birthday night! You need a location convenient enough for everyone, that both boys and girls will enjoy and that is open late enough, or has a second venue just a drunk stumble away that is open into the early hours... it's never an easy task! Every time I thank God that we only have to do this once a year...!

So last week when we received an email from one of our lovely readers asking for some Mice advice on this subject, we felt the Birthday pain and got right on it...

'My 21st Is quickly sneaking up on me, and I want to take the opportunity to treat my closest friends in old London Town! We've booked tickets to Viva Forever, but I'm struggling to decide on a nearby restaurant for dinner. One of my friends only eats chicken, pizza or burgers, but I'm eager to take them to somewhere a bit special that will cater to her tastes. Can you help? I'm Stuck!!'

Mice Advice...

Well as luck would have it for your friend, we are still amid the craze of NYC hitting London with the best of the best burger, chicken and classy 'fast food' type joints popping up everyday! If you missed our recent guest post exploring all these option, look no further and have a peruse here! However as you specify you want something a little bit special for some perfect London birthday celebration, take a look at our shortlist for you below...

Burger and Lobster, Soho, is the answer to all your prayers...not too far from Piccadilly Theatre and with a dual dish menu of burger or lobster, perfect for your food dilemma! For £20 you can pick from a 10 ounce burger, a whole lobster steamed or grilled or a lobster roll! Your friend will be happy with a trusty burger (and I've heard they're pretty tasty!) and everyone else can treat themselves to a luxury lobster dinner!! Plus if there are six or more in your party then you can reserve a table and be seated for your birthday feast without a wait...! If you like the sound then check out our 3BM review of the Mayfair branch here for more details of what to expect!

Little Italy - An oldie but never fails for a drunken fun night of food and dancing! Your friend will be catered for with pizzas on the menu, whilst the rest of you can picks from rich risottos, pastas, seafood...the choices are endless!  However it's after food that the fun begins at little Italy! This should work as a good option if you fancy dinner and drinks after the show, as after the last meal has been served, the tables are cleared away and you can dance the night away to cheesy feel good tunes and sample some of the best espresso martinis London has to offer!

B-Soho pizza and cocktails in a cool venue with a beautiful crowd...sounds like a win win combination for a special birthday night! I haven't been but having researching this one for you, I'm definitely making a reservation ASAP! Located in Soho it is just a hop, skip and jump from The Piccadilly Theatre, and is said to serve authentic pizzas which are cooked for just 90 seconds in a 900 Fahrenheit oven!! You can choose between sitting on the ground floor where you can munch and sip cocktails to live music Tuesday to Saturday, or head downstairs for sharing tables which are ideal for a group booking! Affordable, fun and upbeat...PERFECT!

MEATliquor, a 3BM firm fav for super tasty burgers, cool vibe and amazing cocktails! We reviewed it last March and it scored top points for us, in fact I ventured to it's sister MEATmission in Hoxton at the weekend...keep your eyes peeled for the review! Perfect menu for your dilemma revolving around just chicken and burgers, this may sound boring but believe me the sides and sauces are what sets this menu apart from a regular fast food joint! The decor is stripped back, grungy and super cool as is the crowd that is pulled in by the prospect of trying a 'Dead Hippie Burger'!

MIce Advice: Soho Bars

Mice Advice is back again and this time in relation to the amazing Burger and Lobster that we recently visited...we LOVED it, if you missed it read our write up here.

We were emailed last week with the following Mice Advice plea...

"We're off to Burger and Lobster on Dean Street and wanted some advice on good bars for cocktails in the area!

Paul & Kath"

The Advice

Brilliant location on Dean Street right in the heart of Soho, there are lots of amazing bars but our top choices for you would have to be...

Crazy Bear - 0.4 Miles from Burger and Lobster

I love love love this place and you will too! It's a Thai restaurant upstairs and cocktail bar / lounge downstairs - I celebrated my Birthday here last year with a group of my best friends to try out the tasting menu and cocktails, I can safely say it was loved by all! Some serious drinks to be tried, amazing luxe decor and girls can dress up without feeling out of place...win win!

Cocktail to try...The Gatsby - Tanqueray gin shaken with fresh pink grapefruit juice and homemade fig reduction.

26-28 Whitefield Street,
Fitzrovia,

Mark's Bar - Hix 0.2 Miles from Burger and Lobster

Touted as one of the best bars in London, this has been at the top of my list to visit for a while! Think a basement New York bar...dimly lit, chesterfields, a snooker table, quirky art and a long sleek bar running the entire length of the room...and you have Mark's Bar! Another truly cool venue from the amazing Mark Hix, you can't make a reservation, but I headed down recently on a Friday evening and got a table without a problem. Full review to come shortly so keep your eyes peeled!

Cocktail to try...The Avenue - Four Roses Bourbon shaken with Somerset 3yr Coder Brandy, passion fruit nectar, Mark's grenadine and a dash of orange blossom water.

Vinoteca 0.2 Miles from Burger and Lobster

If wine is your bag, then Vinoteca is your place! Boasting a list of 300 wines you can't really go wrong! Beware though, the super cosy atmosphere may lull you into staying to work your way through several glasses. Helpful staff will make choosing your wine a breeze and decor is gorgeous, think exposed brick walls, fun art and a really cool bar area with hundreds of wine glasses hanging above your head. It's a popular venue for both dinner and wine sipping but worth the wait if there's a queue!

Charlotte Street Hotel - 0.4 Miles from Burger and Lobster

If classy pre-dinner or post-dinner cocktails is what you're after, then Charlotte Street Hotel ticks all the boxes! Oscar Bar is beautifully designed, shakes up delicious cocktails and is full of beautiful people...what more could you want?! If the sun is shining then why not take your cocktail out onto the terrace overlooking bustling Charlotte Street for a spot of Soho people watching! Cocktails are roughly £12 a pop, but totally worth it as they are super scrumptious!

Cocktail to try...Pink Diamond - Rhubarb liqueur, Finlandia Grapefruit vodka, rhubarb puree, cranberry and lemon juice.

NB. Make sure you also order an Espresso Martini - this is where I tried my first ever one and have been in love EVER since!

Mice Advice: Leather Jackets

MORE Mice Advice!

In the last couple of weeks we not only helped Ellie find an iPad case but also came to Renae's rescue to help her find an outfit for the black tie wedding of the year.  We have a couple more in the pipeline but today's message has leap frogged the queue a bit because we were so sad to hear what prompted the request...

Mice,

I need some 3BM advice... So, after a fantastic Jubilee day, I ended up with all my best friends having a good old boogie in Embargos, and what should happen to metaphorically rain on my parade (poor Queen suffering like that all day) but someone stole my leather jacket. My beautiful Reiss, quilted, great, leather jacket.

Any ideas for where I can look for a replacement?  Maybe in the sales....? Something short-ish in the body, slim fit, perhaps an asymmetric cut at the front... My morning searching only shows me 600ish quid at The Kooples....

If you know about something for about the 3 to 400 mark you're angels.

Percy

The Mice Advice

First of all, what sort of horrid person steals a leather jacket over the Jubilee weekend?  Actually, what sort of horrid person steals a leather jacket ever?  We hope karma bites that jacket stealer very hard, very soon...

Second of all, we totally feel your pain on this one.  A great leather jacket is an absolute essential.  Chuck it over jeans and a t-shirt for a casual weekend look, use it to toughen up a pretty summer dress, pair it with a cocktail dress and a pair of shooties for an edgier evening outfit... it's your out and out wardrobe saviour.

Which brings us onto the advice bit... buying a leather jacket in June.  So this may seem like a bit of a tall order given that it's supposed to be summer and the shops should be full of summery things but on the contrary, we actually think it's one of the best times to go leather jacket shopping.  Now's the time to snap up a leather jacket in the sales.  A leather jacket is the perfect example of a real sales bargain - because leather's expensive, designs are generally kept quite classic.  Avoid trend lead pieces and you'll be smugly getting serious bang for your buck for years to come.

So here are some options...

We know we go on about it ALL the time but, as with black tie dress shopping, The Outnet is our first stop here.  I snapped up a great Catherine Malandrino biker jacket from the Outnet this time last year which I wore to death last winter.  Here are a few of our current top picks...

Cut25 contrast textured leather jacket
£178.75 originally £637.54

Only leather-trimmed we know, but we LOVE the sharp shoulders and it's an amazing bargain!
£349.09 originally £1,163.62

Image via: www.theoutnet.com

£322.79  originally £806.96

Image via: www.theoutnet.com

Over on My Wardrobe a couple of great asymmetric/drapey options...

£268.33  originally  £383.33

Image via: www.my-wardrobe.com

£332.50 originally  £475.00

Image via: www.my-wardrobe.com

And we know it's out of the price range, but we had to add this quilted beauty into the mix... if your credit card can stretch an extra couple of hundred it's a sure fire winner...

£667.50 originally  £1,112.50

Image via: www.my-wardrobe.com

At the cheaper end of the scale, a couple of ASOS options...

£95 originally £200

Image via: www.asos.com

£140 originally £200

Image via: www.asos.com

Alternatively, on the full price front there are some great options despite the fact that it's 'summer'...

£399.53

Image via: www.shopbop.com

£100

Image via: www.asos.com

£159

Image via: www.zara.com

We fell for Zara's big sister, Uterque back in April and were lusting after their gorgeous leather jackets then, good news - they're still in stock...

£265

Image via: www.uterque.com

£325

Image via: www.uterque.com

Last but not least, All Saints have an amazing range of leather jackets all year round.  I bought one about five years ago which I still absolutely love and which looks better and better the more its worn.  Mysteriously it now seems to live at Mice Towers in London... I'm plotting how to smuggle it back to HK next time I'm home!  Our current top picks:

£350

£350

£295

Really hoping there's something there that you like Percy and maybe one of these can go at least some way towards filling the place of the much loved Reiss.

MIce Advice: Black Tie Wedding

More Mice Advice!  The Mice are on fire this week!  After helping Ellie track down a fab new home for her iPad, we're back and helping another 3BM blog bud, this time the bud's Renae and the conundrum is the perfect black tie wedding outfit...

@3badmice Help me find a dress for a black tie wedding of the year must be long and some killer heels to match!

Mice to the rescue!  We've come up with a list of our top floor sweeping dresses and sky-scraper heels, add a pretty clutch and a box of confetti and you're black tie wedding ready...

Outnet really comes into its own for black tie dress shopping.  The outlet site always has a wealth of gorgeous dresses at incredible discounts and black tie styles tend to be less trend lead and more classic so no danger of looking so last season.  Stock changes regularly so if there's nothing that you love right now make sure that you check back frequently.  Here are some of our current favourites...

Mikael Aghal Embellished Jersey Maxi Dress - £150 (originally £375)

Image via: www.theoutnet.com

Issa Draped Silk Jersey Halterneck - £288 (originally £575)

Image via: www.theoutnet.com

Halston Heritage Silk Satin Maxi Dress - £179 (originally £477)

Image via: www.theoutnet.com

Image via: www.theoutnet.com

Coast is a great option for black tie dress hunting with a fantastic range of occasion dress options.  We love this floaty, semi-sheer, grape maxi.

Image via: www.asos.com

Whistles Lidia Jersey Maxi - £200 (was £250)
Whistles has some beautiful maxis this season.  We adore the Filippa K Coral Photo Dress and we loved this Lidia maxi before but we love it even more now that Whistles have slashed its price to £200 in their sumer sale... Pair it with a bright pashmina and clutch during the wedding and then slink around the dancefloor when the lights go down.

Image via: www.whistles.co.uk

Mango Wrap Gown - £134.99
Mango also has some killer options this season.  We love this Grecian embellished gown in a mouthwatering coral.

Image via: www.shop.mango.com

Nicole Ritchie's fashion line is the go to for gypset glamour.  This ochre one-shouldered gown would look amazing with a tan and some gold accessories.

Image via: www.revolveclothing.com

This emerald backless dress is a bit pricey but will make a real statement.

Image via: www.shopbop.com

Black tie dressing on a budget?  We've rounded up some options that come in under a hundred pounds leaving you with enough change for a statement necklace or a cocktail ring to really make your outfit pop.

Now the shoes....With one of these full length dresses we'd suggest that sky high sandals are the best option.  Book in for a pedicure the day before to ensure you're perfectly groomed from head to toe.

If you've Spent all your cash on the dress then we recommend heading straight to Zara for ridiculously affordable but beautiful shoes.

These Topshop beauties have shimmery clear straps the perfect shoes to pair with a colourful dress.

Simple, classic sandals, these heels have some serious mileage.

Alternatively, blow the budget on a pair of these beauties (we want the Kokos so much that we might de...)
