This Week The Mice Have Mostly...

Good Morning, good yawning!

Time to give your sleepy self a shake and...

...it's Friday and we have a feeling that this weekend is set to be a good one!

So let's kick it off with a canter through the weekly goings on in Mouseland. This week the Mice have mostly been...

Pimping up the most important meal of the day with some brand new breakfast experiments. We're sick of scrambled eggs, tired of toast and know that trying to scrape by on just a coffee means a morning full of tantrums and rumbling tummies. So, we decided it was time to get Googling and come up with some fun alternatives.

We're trying to start autumn as we mean to go on with early morning work outs followed by healthy breakfasts to get us set up and raring to go for our busy days ahead. Because no one's got time for slaving over a hot stove for hours on end on a weekday morning, we're keeping things simple but tasty. If you're also after some clean, lean, carb-light meal inspo, highlights this week have been...

...coconut yoghurt with kiwi and raspberries...

... and baked eggs in avocado with herbs and chilli.

Scrumble-saurus Rex!

Curling up with some seriously awesome autumn reads. As summer fades to a shimmery memory, it's definitely time to embrace all the best things about the cooler weather and top of our list of wintery pastimes is snuggling up on the sofa with a big glass of red wine and a really great book. It may still be 30C and sunny in Hong Kong but that doesn't mean we can't whack up the aircon and pull on our onesies a little prematurely... Our October bookworm picks?

A collection of letters written throughout the eighties from Nina, a fresh out of the box nanny in London back home to her sister in Leicester. Filled with the most wryly observed and wittily recounted tales of domestic life in a fascinatingly bonkers household, you'll miss Nina like a new friend when it finishes far too soon.

The brand new offering from David Nicholls is every bit as spellbinding as his 2009 bestseller One Day. Us follows a family on the brink of collapse off on a make or break trip of a lifetime around Europe. Bittersweet but brilliant.

Stocking up on spooktacular essentials as Halloween lurks just around the corner primed ready to jump out on us with a boo! Whether you're getting decked out in your scariest costume for a serious evening of trick or treating, or just heading out to get frightfully intoxicated on a couple too many cocktails, we've rounded up our top Halloween buys (and there's some scarily great bargains in the mix to boot!)...

And that's that for another week! Time to zip off in a shower of glitter and Champagne corks to get the weekend started. But before you go, a little reminder...

Lots and lots of love!

Trade-Made for Life...

Last weekend I celebrated my birthday - no divulging my magic number fellow mice!!! To mark the occasion myself, Mini and four other pals headed to Trade-Made on Commercial Street in Shoreditch for a slap up brekkie! We had spied this hidden gem on Emerald Street a while back and had kept it earmarked to taste test and report back to you all.

Dressed up in my laid back birthday outfit, I trotted off ready to eat for England - why not, calorie's don't count on your birthday...

Passing through Brick Lane as we went, I took a snap of some astronaut, knife, butterfly graffiti / craft work of art - random but beaut...

10 minutes later, with rumbling tummies, we arrived...

First impressions ... surprisingly spacious - from the outside Trade-Made doesn't look much but when you step inside, the space magically expands spilling out onto an pretty little outdoor terrace. A table of weekend papers entices and warehouse inspired lighting hangs from the ceiling...

The contrast between the sparse white walls and wooden panelling works beautifully...

With charming details everywhere drawing you further into the nook...

But onto the star attraction - the food is kind of a big deal! A killer menu which will leave you undecided as to where to lay your hat - yes everything just sounds so darn tasty! The meats come from an artisan supplier in Devon, the eggs are flown in from Italy, the bread from a range of local bakers and the fruit and veg is delivered every morning from New Spitalfields Market. They even have a small smokery in the back yard where they produce their Trade-Made Pastrami and a variety of other deli meats - nice touch!

I opted for a piggy portion of scrambled eggs (oh-so-yellow-and-yummy yolks) piled on sourdough with a side of smoked salmon and smashed avo, which was a concoction of avocado, feta, mint, chilli and lemon - DELISH...

Post-brekkie we were all smiles and suitably stuffed...

But we couldn't stop there! We pushed ourselves over the edge by indulging in orgasmic chocolate and salted caramel brownies - one word - heavenly...

Trade-Made please accept a BIG thumbs up - we heart you and we'll be back in a flash!

Cream Of The Coffee: Ozone

We've officially found our new favourite place, the perfect canvas for a lazy Sunday flicking through the papers (who am I kidding Style and Stella magazine is more like it) whilst polishing off plate lickingly good brunch and all washed down by the best cup of coffee London has to offer. If that sounds right up your street, then pay Ozone a visit immediately!

Ozone is famous for it's coffee, they roast their own beans on the premises, act as providers to businesses in the UK and Europe and provide training and equipment to start up ventures. The Ozone Coffee Roastery originated in New Zealand around ten years ago by a couple with the vision to make a difference after visiting remote villages in El Salvador with their main income relying on coffee plantations. Although one of the founder sadly passed away in 2008, the  heart of the business he built lives on, with the drive to offer quality without compromise whilst creating income for the families and growers at origin.

It not only has a lovely story behind it but really does come up with the goods. We ordered two skinny cappuccinos which I devoured in less than a minute...I can't explain why it was so good but it defiantly didn't taste skinny and the coffee flavour was intense, smooth and rich but not too much so. If this was on my work route I would be in that queue every morning without fail!

The decor has been executed beautifully - high ceilings, exposed brickwork, hanging light bulbs, hand painted signs, huge windows and an impressive wrap around coffee station overlooking the baristas and chefs.

The shabby chic design makes you feel right at home and like you could quite comfortably spend a day chatting and sipping away! The large dining area is situated on the ground floor overlooking the basement which is authentically full of all the coffee bean roasting equipment. The key to great coffee is freshness and Ozone can guarantee this in abundance - it all happens right here on site...

The attention to detail made me fall a little bit more in love - the cute jam jars of flowers, labels on the sugar pot and teeny tiny pegs on the bill...I'm a sucker for such things!

And lastly the food...that never comes last on my list but there is too many great things to cover when it comes to Ozone! We ventured down on a late Sunday morning...

After a cup of their heavenly coffee we greedily gobbled down some much needed grub!

Eggs benedict...

And french toast with rhubarb and creme fraiche...

We didn't have room but the pastries looked pretty scrum too...

They have a combination of 'Lunchy Things' and then a separate section dedicated to eggs which is served all day...my kind of place! We were perched at the coffee bar overlooking the chefs at work and after seeing some of the other culinary creations leaving the kitchen I'm getting my next booking in quick smart!

Fear not, if Shoreditch is too far for you to venture, they supply many other businesses in London - so you can all sample the amazingness for yourself. See their website here to scout out where's close by and become hooked just like us!

And remember...
