The Golden Globes: Black and White and Red All Over

Diamonds, red carpets, Couture and weepy acceptance speeches - Awards Season officially kicked off on Sunday evening with the 70th Annual Golden Globes Awards.

While we try to maintain that we're at least a little bit interested in who wins what, to be completely honest, for us it's all about who wears what...

Being the first gown parade of the season, the Globes sets the fashion benchmark for the A-List over the coming months and gives us all a little fashion inspo for translating trends from the Catwalk to the sidewalk. And of course there's the chance to do a bit of OMGing about the celebs who get it very, very wrong (which always amazes us given that they clearly have a team of stylists, hairdressers, make-up artists and labels throwing free things at them...).

After a very happy day of poring over all the dresses, analysing necklines and hemlines, compiling our key trends and putting together our best and worst dressed lists, we bring you the 3BM Golden Globes Highlights and a little bit of mawks twin dressing...

The Trends

Black and White and Red All Over
No, not a sunburnt penguin, the Golden Globes' colour palette.

Flicking through the Golden Globes snaps yesterday morning, our first thought was fifty shades of pale - white, nude and pale pastels reigned supreme. Failsafe black also got a pretty good run though as did punchy red from coral to scarlet, right through to oxblood and burgundy.

Clockwise from top left: Anne Hathaway, Isla Fisher, Amanda Seyfried, Julianne Hough, Jennifer Lopez and Kristen Bell.

From left to right: Rachel Weisz, Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Sophia Vergara, Stacy Keibler.

Clockwise from top left: Zooey Deschanel, Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Garner, Naomi Watts, Clare Danes and Jennifer Lawrence

Something Fishy

Guaranteed to give you Coke bottle curves, the va va voom fishtail silhouette is always a winner on the red carpet. Very old school glam and the perfect way to amp up the sex factor.

Clockwise from top left: Jessica Alba, Amy Adams, Megan Fox, Hayden Panettiere, Taylor Swift and Kelly Osbourne.

The Thigh's the Limit
Where Angie's right leg lead, the rest of Hollywood's legs have followed. On Sunday night the carpet was awash with thigh high splits and a lot of leg thrusting. All a little bit comic but hey, we guess if you've got it, flaunt it.

Clockwise from top left: Eva Longoria, Heidi Klum, Halle Berry, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Katharine McPhee and Lea Michele.

Top of the Frocks
Topping our best dressed list is this bevy of lovelies...

Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen
Black doesn't have to be boring, we adore Kate's floorsweeper. A keyhole cut-out balances out the high neck and long sleeves and there's just enough gilding to give this gown Golden Globes mega wattage.

Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Couture
One of our favourite pieces from Raf Simons' debut couture collection for Dior. Lawrence's look is vintage screen siren with a fresh, modern edge. That teeny, tiny waist has us reaching for our trainers and vowing to stick to our New Year's healthy eating resolutions.

Emily Blunt in Michael Kors
This stunning gold number is very Audrey Hepburn we're also totally in love with the Salvatore Ferragamo glitter box clutch.

Michelle Dockery in Alexandre Vauthier
We first sat up and took notice of Alexandre Vauthier when he dressed Heidi Klum in a floaty, sea green, grecian gown for the Emmys. We liked Heidi's AV Golden Globes number but we love, love, love Michelle's AV gown particularly those killer shoulders. We're just going to try to ignore the peep of burgundy court shoe though...

The Bad, the Ugly and the WTF

While this little lot had us hiding behind our computer screens shouting "nooooooo"...

Lena Dunham in Zac Posen
A brown eighties bridesmaid's dress. That face says it all.

Jessica Chastain in Calvin Klein
Ill-fitting in all the wrong places and don't even get us started on the hair...

Lucy Liu in Caroline Herrera
Laura Ashley print, OTT meringuey bridal silhouette, the only thing we like about this look are the pockets.

Emily Mortimer in Jenny Packham
Too tight, too covered-up, too Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz. Kick a girl when she's down by adding limp, wash & go hair and bad make-up, our total WTF moment of the evening.

And a Little Sack the Stylist Moment...

When we saw Girls' star Allison Williams' J.Mendel number, we had a bit of a deja vu moment... Long, black, navel grazing - pretty much identical to Katharine McPhee's Theyskens' Theory gown. Add in the necklace-free neckline, scraped back hair, smoky eyes and drop earrings and we're in twin territory...

And that's a wrap.

Not to worry though, only two weeks until the SAGs and just six little weeks until the Oscars...
