Brunch fit for a Bishop...

We literally stumbled across this little brunch treasure a couple of weekends ago while we were in search of our Sunday coffee fix on a cold wet morning. We were all set on hitting The Breakfast Club, only to be met with a long snaking queue down Artillery Lane, so with rumbling tummies off we marched in search of an alternative brunch spot very bleary eyed and a little cross! As the rain started to lash and the wind picked up we were ready to jump in anywhere that would whip us up a hot latte...this is when we came across Bishopsgate Kitchen. Conveniently located a brisk 3 minute walk from Liverpool Street station, and a mere hop, skip and a jump from Spitalfields market, it's also, as luck would have it, very close to to the popular Breakfast Club!!!

As soon we pushed open the door, we were hit by a blast of cosy warmth and the smell of strong coffee ...brownie points immediately earned! Another couple of points were clocked up when we were met by a queue of two people and seated within a couple of minutes!

The decor is beautiful...high ceilings, gorgeous light fixtures, mismatched chairs, art deco style floor tiles and dark floor to ceiling shelves crammed full of jars, bottles of oils and fresh vegetables...there isn't much to dislike!

There were sweet little touches that added to the homely, retro feel like the old fashioned meat slicing station which must come in handy for the Eggs Benedict with parma ham and the vintage pastel Dualit toasters dotted down the central bench so you can toast your own bread to perfection!

Anyway onto more important things...the menu!!!

Bishopsgate Kitchen have your standard brunch dishes covered...eggs royale, a traditional fry up and scrambled eggs and smoked salmon - however there is actually nothing standard about this...creamy golden eggs with mountains of thickly sliced smoked salmon all toppling on a huge hunk of freshly baked bread...and then there were unusual ones thrown into the mix too! Of course we opted for something a bit different all for the blog!!!

Middle Mouse went for the Breakfast Burrito which consisted of Chorizo, bacon, cheddar cheese, haricot beans with scrambled eggs and tomato sauce, and I went for Chorizo Hash with poached duck egg, spinach and manchego cheese, both with fresh juice and a strong coffee!

Both were super delicious but I have to admit the breakfast burrito took the slight edge, mine was very tasty with all my favourite ingredients in one dish but the potatoes could have done with a little longer and probably hangover induced but it left me feeling seriously dehydrated, however I did finish off every single scrap! The breakfast burrito scored top points though...a smokey edge with all the flavours complementing one another creating a ridiculously moreish combination...so much so Middle Mouse pushed her plate away claiming defeat, only to pull it back a mere five minutes later to polish it all off!!!!

All in all a cosy haven from the wintry weather, decor that could keep you amused for hours as you discover more and more little gems hidden away and a menu pleasing all, we shall be back Bishopsgate Kitchen!!
