The Baftas: Best & Worst Dressed List

So the Baftas are over for another year.  Who won what?  We're not entirely sure.  But who did Penelope Cruz wear?  Did Helena Bonham Carter look her usual mix of crazy wonderful?  Now that's more our field.

Best dressed?

In a dress designed for her by Marc Jacobs that was inspired by the fifties Dior New Look silhouette, in the palest, sugared-almond pink, she looked as though she had just stepped off of the carousel that whirled the models around on the s/s 12 Louis Vuitton catwalk in Paris last autumn.  Hosting the Bafta Red Carpet Show at the Royal Opera House last night, she really was the picture of what we all aspire to this season.  Who?  Miss Piggy of course.

But what about the others?  We give you the 3BM run down of all the best and worst dressed at the Baftas last night.

Our Best Dressed
The red carpet was awash with monochrome dresses last night in London but bucking the trend were the girls in metallics.  For us the best dressed were Christina Ricci in gold Givenchy and Jessica Chastrain in silver, fluted Oscar de la Renta.

A breath of fresh air in palest daffodil yellow Pucci was Naomie Harris.  We absolutely love the top half, the necklace and the colour but something about the hankerchiefy hem skirt makes us push this to just below the metallic girls on the best dressed list.

There were also some definite hits in the black and white clad brigade.  Both in Victoria Beckham, Melissa George and Downton's Joanne Froggatt showed that black isn't always boring (loving the trains and the exposed zip that runs right down the back of Froggatt's dress).

Tilda Swinton, was as ever impeccably stylish in cap-sleeved Celine, demonstrating to Kirstin Wiig that white needn't mean bridal.

Lastly, while we weren't blown away by the dress (H&M - although bespoke H&M), special mention has to go to Michelle Williams for her fab Olympia Le Tan Arthur Miller clutch - LOVE.

And Our Worst Dressed
Edith Bowman and Hayley Atwell both dressed by William Vintage topped our worst dressed list.  Edith looked as though she was doing the washing up in her nightie while Hayley looked like she was channelling bad nineties bridesmaid.

Jessica Brown Findlay followed the Downton all black dresscode but in her high-necked, long-sleeved, A-line skirted she looked as though she'd come dressed as O'Brien.

As for Penelope and Helena?  Well the former wore red Armani.  Perfectly pleasant but nothing special and we weren't mad about the square neckline.  And Helena looked a little more put together than usual in Giles Deacon but the make-up and handbag were still trademark HB-C.
