Mice Advice - Yummy Mummy Summer Wear

We're back again with some more Mice Advice and this time it's a request for help from Hong Kong.  Zoe, one of Natalie's besties, is not only lovely and gorgeous but also has a brand new, beautiful little baby girl, Mimi.  We'll try to make this a good one....

Dear Mice,

I need to update my wardrobe for this year's Hong Kong summer as I will be running around after my 10 month old.

What I would love is some culottes and a couple of jumpsuits but all the ones I have seen are this year's hotpant trend and also look really "young". I don't want to look like a mummy either so need some things that are not obviously practical! My final request is that they don't cost too much as I don't really want to spend money on clothes that will be covered in food and God knows what else. So practical, pretty, not mumsy and inexpensive... I'm not asking much!

Good luck little mice. Love a mummy who would love to look yummy xxxx

The Mice Advice

We'll start with a true bargain from ASOS, a perfect summer jumpsuit - not too tight or too heavy, ideal outfit for chasing after baby Mimi in uncomfortable HK heat! Although it bypasses the hotpant trend it definitely couldn't be classed as 'Mummy'. The chic rope detailing gives a nod towards the nautical trend and even better it comes in three gorgeous vibrant jewel tones. Just to add icing to the cake it is also currently reduced to £36, PERFECT!

Next up on jumpsuits is this Whistles beauty - it isn't brand new to the collection but is still a firm favourite of mine. Very easy to chuck on with a pair of flat gold sandals for a casual daytime look, however I guarentee you will be the yummiest mummy in town! A little pricier at £135 but well worth the extra as you can also team it with sky high Charlotte Olympias (I wish) and BAM...transformed into a polished evening outfit for lychee cocktails whilst Mimi is tucked up snug in bed....

Finally I have cheated slightly on this one, my excuse is there really aren't that many nice, new jumpsuits coming through on the high street that I would want to recommend. I have therefore opted for a playsuit but not a tight, short, Amy Childs type....trust me! I love the casual, slouchy feel to this number - easy wearing yet sleek and clean cut at the same time. One that definitely ticks the Safari / Utility trend and perfect for those humid Hong Kong days with a big slouchy tote and Ray-Bans. This is from French Connection and will set you back £82...

My first nomination in the shorts category are these super hot scalloped hem culottes from Miss Selfridge - slightly high waisted and could be worn with or without the tie. They have a cute waistband pleat detail at the front making them easy to wear with a plain black vest tucked in or equally with an oversized tee. Again can be dressed up with heels for the evening or with flats for the daytime. Even better they come in at £32 and you can snap them up in numerous colours including a bang on trend saffron yellow!

Covering off the Pastel trend I love these lightweight cotton Holiday Shorts from Topshop - another inexpensive (£32) addition to the wardrobe ticking all the practical day-to-day boxes yet still on trend with the turn-ups, front pleating and in a hot coral colour!

Last but not least....I have found these gorgeous pleated shorts from Zara and for only £29.99 - I heart them! They are super flattering with the lose culotte shape, going for the slightly smarter feel but still really wearable and easy. Once again perfect with both flats and heels, making it a versatile purchase and one that is sure to make you 'hot to trot' in the playground!

With the Summer collections just starting to hit down, I'm sure there'll be millions more that take my fancy.....but what's new there! I hope this helps Zoe, although you truly are one yummy mummy anyway!
